Mike & Elena Maurini

We’re the Maurinis! We met in 2003 in Elena’s hometown of Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. With Mike hailing from Toronto, Canada, Elena travelled frequently to visit until we moved to Indianapolis, Indiana and were married in 2006. We have one daughter, Arianna (2).

Mike: Starting in karting at a very young age, I have been involved in every aspect of the industry since becoming a graduate of the Business Administrative Marketing program at the Durham College – University of Ontario. As a driver, mechanic, coach, media rep, team owner, entrepreneur, business owner and salesman, I have done nothing outside the world of motorsports. Competing at a high level until the age of 16, I traded in my driving gloves for a keyboard as I took over the sale of advertising for Rob Howden and Super Kart Illustrated once I completed my higher education. Lasting a year in the desk position, it was back out to the paddock as I looked to work more closely with some of today’s motorsports stars.

Initially focusing most of my skills on the tuning side of the sport, I worked tirelessly to ensure my drivers were at the front of the pack. Utilizing my driving and chassis tuning experience to coach drivers, analyze data and win championships, I quickly progressed up the ladder to become a well-respected individual in the karting industry. Now partners with Martijn Koene in Team Koene USA, I run the day-to-day operations of our elite karting team. Continuing the dream that Dan Wheldon, Koene and I had to operate one of the premier teams in North America, Koene USA has quickly become one of the major players in the karting industry. I also operate a small marketing and media company, Race Tech Development and recently took over the reigns as Operating Manager of Karting Source.

Always one to give back to the karting community, my companies sponsor several karting series across the country, whether it be pole position awards, podium giveaways or class sponsorships. I am honored to be part of the KCU board.

Elena: Growing up close to the world-famous Road America racetrack, I was always a fan of racing, but didn’t experience the karting scene until I met Mike. A dancer at heart, I started dance classes at the age of seven. Going on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Dance from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, my career path took a 180 as Mike got me involved in the sport. Working as an administrative assistant for a karting team for several years, I also managed the day-to-day operations of EKN Canada in addition to web and graphic design. Landing a corporate job for an office service and technology provider, I soon missed my karting family and traveling with Mike. Returning to the industry, I am now employed by Mike’s Race Tech Development, where I assist with marketing and media services. I also joined the MAXSpeed team as Marketing & Social Media Coordinator in 2014. I am a full-time mom to our daughter, Arianna, and work out of our home in Carmel, Indiana. I am also honored to be a part of the KCU board with Mike and give back to the karting community, which has given me so much!
